Bloodsport vs Lionheart

Almost the same movie. Van Damme is in the army but leaves (for different reasons) and competes in tournaments while being chased by two men in said army. Also has a loud mouth best friend in both movies.

Which one do you prefer?

Lionheart offers more drama, but as a martial arts-film, Bloodsport. Primarily for one reason, Bolo Yeung. Also Bloodsport has better cinematography and choreography. Lionheart is solid, but Bloodsport has simply more style.

Yeah, Lionheart does indeed have some "Heart" to it, and a surprisingly decent performance by Van Damme. But more importantly, Van Damme is surrounded by a very good company of supporting actors. I do think Lionheart is a superior film to Bloodsport.

reply

Yeah.

Would be interesting to have the CHARACTERS from the films fight each other.

How would "Leon" do against the Bloodsport fighters especially Chong Li and his "doppelganger" Frank Dux?

How would "Atilla" do against Chong Li or Ray Jackson?

reply

No question about it, the Lionheart group would get massacred by the Bloodsport fighters. They were just much better trained and more resilient.

reply

and funny how Bloodsport almost never made it to the screen.

BloodSport simply has no competition.

The Quest and Bloodsport Literally are the same exact movies....

So many Plot points and Events are Identical....

as for these 2 movies...Bloodsport is the better movie but Lionheart is good too....In fact its more Bloodsport is just that good rather than Lionheart isnt good...

JCVD is my all time favorite action star....When I was a kid I watched His movies literally Thousands of times....

I had Bloodsport, Kickboxer and Cyborg on VHS....

I watched them so many times I wore the tape out and My Mom had to re-record them....I then Wore then New Bloodsport VHS again but this time It only wore out exactly when the final fight started....this was because I would watch the entire movie, then after it ended I would rewind and watch the final fight again 2 or 3 more times, lol, So eventually it got to the point where I'd pop the VHS in watch the whole movie and then the tape would stop directly when the final fight started lol...

Cyborg is my favorite JCVD movie....

Kickerboxer is my favorite "Martial arts" film...The Final fight between Kurt and Tong Po is My all time favorite Fight...without exaggeration I've probably watched that fight over 200 times...

Tong Po is IMO one of the most underrated Movie Villains of all time....He was Horrifying, His fighting Style was brutal, His face literally looks like a Mutant Monster and He has one of the greatest and most intimidating Movie Introduction of all time with ...

Kurt hears a thumping sound, Slowly peaks in the door and its revealed Tong Po Is Kicking a concrete Beam.....Literally ALL TIME great introduction to a Villain....Instantly sets the tone for the character and makes you fear him

It truly pains me to see JCVD now...He looks so old, His face looks so bad.....

Here are my Rankings of all of JCVD's movies

Bloodsport but I like Lionheart

Bloodsport by a country mile.

Far better paced with much better choreography and editing due to Van Damme (who edited Bloodsport at the twelfth hour before release).

There's a much greater variety of fighting styles on display, and the music is unbeatable. I don't even remember Lionheart's soundtrack.

I can almost watch Bloodsport all the time, but Lionheart is a movie you sort of have to be in a mood for. It has a better overall cache of actors to help support Van Damme, but it lacks the action, pacing, style and heart of Bloodsport. It's why people still consider Bloodsport to be the best tournament-fight film of all time.

As a kid: Bloodsport

Now: Not so sure.

Bloodsport: Better fighting and pacing. Great 80s songs as well as score.

Lionheart: Better plot. More emotionally engaging. I like all the different fighting locations. Super cheesy (in a fun way).
