She Left Millions of Dollars To Her Dog When She Died

That goes to show just how loony the woman was. She was notoriously mean which made it great that she was sent to prison for awhile for tax evasion. It was something she really deserved. She fainted after she heard the verdict in court, but she had to face the music for what she did.

I think she did this because honestly, she probably didn't have any REAL friends & ANY relatives she had or did have more than likely snubbed her because of her personality and poor treatment of people.

It's probably also because she truly loved her dog and wanted to make sure that her dog would be well taken care of.

@ least, she did right by her dog. I'm sure she did other things that were good, of course, but on the subject of her dog, it's good that she took care of her dog even after her passing.

Simply because so many people these days mistreat their pets, and that's unfortunate & disturbing. 

That's a good point about her. I think too that she had become crazy after awhile. After her jail time she left the spotlight and went into seclusion. Her puppy was evidently the only one she could trust and love in this world, I guess.

Yea, & this is a GREAT made-for-tv movie.

I liked it.

Did you know her mansion in Greenwich Connecticut is said to be haunted? 

Doesn't surprise me. She was already a real hell-raiser when she was alive:

On March 31, 1982, Leona's only child, Jay Panzirer, died of a heart attack resulting from arrhythmia. Mimi, her son's widow who lived in a property Leona owned, received an eviction notice shortly after Jay's funeral. Leona successfully sued her son's estate for money and property that she claimed he had borrowed, and was ultimately awarded $146,092.

camelot2000,

That's awful, wow!

Where did find that article? There's probably tons of those types of articles.

When I saw a photo of her she looked miserable.

The made-for-tv movie was good.

Did Leona own her own business BEFORE marrying Harry?

I can't remember if she did or not.

Got it from Wikipedia. Imagine, suing her dead son's estate!

Leona Helmsley
“Boring and rather stupid,” is Alan Dershowitz’s assessment of the famous Queen of Mean. They were having breakfast in her hotel, when a waiter brought Dershowitz a cup of tea. A small amount had spilled on the saucer.
Helmsley grabbed the cup and saucer and threw it on the floor, shattering them. “Now clean it up and beg for your job,” she said to the waiter.

She was apparently born to a dad who was a "hatmaker". What got her rich was marrying a millionaire. Here's Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leona_Helmsley

camelot 2000,

I read the article. She was rich BEFORE she got married.

After a brief stint at a sewing factory, she joined a New York real estate firm, where she eventually became vice-president.

SOURCE:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leona_Helmsley

She briefly worked in a sewing factory, and then worked in a NY real estate company and became VP eventually.

So, in her defense, she DID have money in her OWN right & was obviously a hardworker, so she is PROOF that you can come from humble beginnings and if you work hard eventually become financially successful.

Her name wasn't even originally Leona, which is odd. It was actually Lena & she kept changing her name.

She wasn't just some woman without a career of her own nor her own money. She was clearly rich in her own right.

Of course her attitude is NOT one ANYONE respectable businessperson nor person in ANY field should be emulating.

Mistreating people is wrong & even if, someone is successful in spite of their mistreatment of people, it's morally deplorable to mistreat others.

If I ever write a best-selling novel, I'll be sure to continue treating people right & NOT get a big head.
