They must have done something pretty bad for her not to leave them anything.

Leona decided that their mother, Jay's wife, Mimi, somehow caused his death. (Even though he died having sex with a woman exec from one of the hotels.) Harry and leona were never close to most of the grandkids and didn't care about them. Leona insisted on having Mimi and her son EVICTED from their home, claiming that it was part of Jay's compensation package and after he died it reverted back to Helmsley ownership. She spent $100,000 disputing her son's $200,000 estate and succeeded in depriving his heirs of it. To this day Mimi claims "I don't know why they did it." But on the BRIGHT side, she DID leave $12 million to her dog, "Trouble"!
Leona cut off two of her grandchildren reportedly because they didn't name any of their children after Harry!
Inevitably for an estate of this size, the will was contested, and the judge ruled that Leona was not of sound mind when she executed it. The $12 million bequest to her dog was cut to $2 million, and the disinherited grandchildren received $6 million.
