The fact that Sameer vaguely remembers a name suggests that he may have been Mehru's reincarnation. Miraj Ali also recognized him as Mehru. Also, remember when Sameer wonders and ask: who am I? And remember how Reva was literally staring at him in the train compartment when she first saw him? Maybe she recognized him?

But then, at the end I wasn't so sure. He might as well have been just someone who Reva trusted and hence she came to him. As the psychologist friend of Sameer says, she may have come to him because of his pure and honest soul and that's why she trusted him. I guess it's deliberately left open to personal interpretation.
