The Sawyer that was caught & executed in the narration

In the opening narration, it said that a W.E. Sawyer was caught, tried, and executed for the events in the first TCM film? Does anyone know who that was?
I always thought it was Drayton/Cook because Hitchhiker was run down and it seemed obvious Leatherface escaped? Was Drayton suppose to be one who died in the gas chamber in 1981?

Other theories I have. It seems far fetched (but find me one horror film that isn't to some degree) that Hitch survived and was arrested If by some super miracle he was heathly enough to stand trial

My third theory was there was 3 Leatherfaces ( which explains how he came back after being killed off in 2. Maybe Leatherface was 3 triplet brothers or just related somehow-Original, "Bubba", and "Junior"

Does anyone have any ideas on who the Sawyer that died in the gas chamber in the opening narration-Drayton, Hitchhiker, "A" Leatherface, or some unknown family member that never appeared on screen?

Since this film was written with the intention of ignoring 2, I think it's safe to assume the W.E. Sawyer executed in 1981 was in fact meant to be Jim Siedow's character from the original.

However, I like to think of the first four films as being part of the same continuity. At least to an extent that's possible.

In a TCM 5 fan script I wrote, W.E. (William Edward Sawyer, Sr.) was in fact hinted to be the gas station window washer seen in the original. A brother to Drayton, Nubbins, and Bubba Jr. (Leatherface). And he was, believe it or not, the father of the W.E. character in TCM 4, played by Joe Stevens. Technically making that film's W.E. the nephew of the much younger Vilmer.

I totally forgot the window washer in TCM 1. Good theory.

I think they just didn't care. This film serves as a reboot to this series and it doesn't make much sense if you try to look at the timeline logically.

I should have paid more attention to that narration. It seemed to me it was saying they executed the original Leatherface, but there was was some doubt as to whether or not it was actually him. It didn't really make sense since there seemed to be no connection between the 1973 Sawyer family and the 1990 family. If there was, I totally missed it.
