a lot of people mix this movie with the new lasst samuray, lost samuray, and hell knows what.
this is a movie where an american veteran is hired to teach chineese force to use modern weapons, gets kidnapped by a samuray-gang, learns their ways and then helps them to fight against the army he was supposed to be training. so stop mixing this movie with some bad ones.

To really clear things up, this movie has the same title as the movie made in 2003 with Tom Cruise and Ken Watanabe. The titles are identical, the stories are very different. The Tom Cruise movie involves a tired and disillusioned American Civil War and Indian War veteran hired to help train the first 'modern' army for the restored Empire of Japan during the Meiji Restoration. There are no chinese characters in either film, to my knowledge.
