Definitely one of the best scenes in the movie. I'll never forget when I saw that when the movie came out. The audience was like "whoa" - a lot of people DID NOT SEE THAT COMING. Now that I've seen the movie a thousand and one times I can see it coming and it makes total sense but at the time, what an impact.

i must say i was hoping for a more slower painful death for him, i hated his charachter.
shareThere was one time I was watching this movie with a couple of others, and someone who I didn't really care for came into the room right before the scene, he took an interest in the film perhaps because he was a Caruso fan. Then..."Hey, you." BOOM!
This was his reaction:
Mine:
Great f-ing scene.
LOL!!!

He was a snot nosed punk.
"Don't worry, I'm a gun club member, I'm taking these rookies downtown".
I was glad David's character died too and was glad when snipes' died too
share So all of you guys glorify gangsters?
You want to play the game, you'd better know the rules, love.

It would have been even funnier, if right after, Walken took off his sunglasses and made a quip.
shareAll the joking aside, I think that the reasons audiences were probably shocked by this death was because it was so non-theatrical, so "non-movie", it probably caught many offguard. It was a very convincing and realistic gangland style hit, awesome moment.

Cold blooded people on this board.
shareIt seemed to convenient that:
a)Caruso's character left the funeral early
b)Walken's knew this would happen
c)He was able to get his limousine past all the other cars at that exact moment
d)With all the police and cars he was not caught immediately.
He was stacking out the funeral. He would have found a way to get him maybe after he followed Caruso but Caruso gave him an earlier chance. Caruso felt guilty and couldn't watch the caskets go down. It appears that it was nearing the end of the funeral anyhow. The police wouldn't expect such a think nor did it seem that they knew where it came from other then one cop. I'm just surprised somebody didn't give chase but, it's a movie.

Should have ha a back up walk him to the car.
shareVery good observation. 2 many skeptics here.

He needs to die in every movie. I hate that redhaired idiot. Anyone notice how stupid he looks whenever he tries to make a scowling/angry face?
"hey... you... *BLAM*"
great rewind moment...

Revenge for him getting all the babes killed was all I was bothered about by then.
