Bill Murray??

According to the trivia page Bill Murray was offered the role of Kimble before it went to Arnold. I wonder how different this movie would be with a Murray instead of Arnold.

If that's true, it's strange, because this doesn't seem like a typical Murray role at all. Has he ever played a cop? Has he ever done an action role other than Ghostbusters? I could sort of see him doing the classroom scenes, with his trademark deadpan, and I imagine the film would have been less action-oriented.

I don't know anything about Bill being offered this role. But it's not unlikely that the whole movie was adjusted to fit Arnold. Like how Beverly Hills Cop originally was a Stallone movie, but turned into something completely different. Maybe it wasn't even supposed to be a cop-movie.

reply

Actually, I think Murphy's role in Beverly Hills Cop sounds just like the sort of role Stallone might have played. Of course Murphy brought far more humor to the role than Stallone would have, plus the movie chose to address race issues that wouldn't have existed if the character had been white. But the overall structure of the film seemed very much like a Stallone vehicle. In contrast, Kindergarten Cop doesn't seem even remotely like a role intended for Bill Murray.

Would have worked in its own way, but I doubt it would have been quite as uniquely amusing.

I knew I was on to something when that taxi driver kidnapped me.

Lol devito would have been mistaken for a student throughout the movie... As well as being the same height as Linda hunt ?

reply

Being the same height as Linda would have made it cuter.

It probably would've been a different movie if Bill was involved. I can't imagine Bill going into that bar at the beginning and kicking everyone's butt and also taking out a sofa with a shotgun.

As mad as it sounds, Newcastle United legend Kevin Keegan was not only considered for the role, there is an actual audition tape of him as Kimble, doing the rounds on torrent websites.

.has Bill Murray ever played a cop before ? lol..

reply

Maybe Bill Murray's role of John Kimble was too comical John Kimble was a serious character Arnold was prefect for the role Patrick Swayze was offered role but he also turned it down.

reply

I could see Patrick Swayze as the tough cop, but I can't see him in the classroom scenes.

reply

Maybe Patrick would have brought an air of brotherly love to the classroom scenes.
