Why was It able to kill Koontz?

Never understood why It was able to assit Henry in escaping by killing Koontz? After all, Koontz was an adult and would not have even been able to see It.

Thought they bent the rules on that one.

Nope. Pennywise can be seen by anyone it wants to be seen by. In the novel, multiple adults see it at the same time. It took the former of a Doberman pinscher because Koontz was afraid of them.

Then why does Belch talk about how adults have to "half-believe" in order to see and be hurt by It? I guess this means that Koontz at least half-believes in the supernatural?

reply

While IT primarily attacks and kills kids it can harm adults too, like it does to Bev's husband and Audra.

Kids are not only easier targets but also easier to scare. Them being afraid made them taste better to Pennywise.
