What did Ray's wife meet Dennis for? - Internal Affairs (1990) Discussion

Because all three of them...Dennis, Raymond and Kathleen were stupid. Kathleen for fooling around with Dennis, Dennis because he was a jacka$$ to begin with and Raymond for falling for it and having a stupid, jealous tantrum. All three of them struck me as immature. The only mature one throughout the film was Amy Wallace.

Ooooooooooh,....so very 'WRONG'. There was not 'one' stupid character in the bunch. So I gather you are either (1) Very young & or (2) Have not had many/any life experiences,...or (3) Have not seen very many movies,...which kind of 'bind's' all this together. I have lived long enough to have seen crazy sh!t like this in my own life. Some people are just 'sick' individual's either because of 'greed' (as Gere so perfectly play's/portrays) or some other 'ill' that this world/society has dispatched upon them. But,...maybe Life will be better for you as you age,...who know's,...if & when you have survived Hunger/Famine/Disease/Rape/Murder/War/Anger/a Nuclear Threat/Loss of Trust,...in almost everyone and everything,...this movie will be appreciated for the Trueness of the Psychological, Pathical 'Sickness' that WE have beome.
And do NOT even get me talkin' about George 'Dubbya' Bush'. The F'N' Antichrist-Hisself/Dumb-Ass/Bigot/Thief/Liar/Greediest Son-Of-A-Bitchin' Excuse this Nation has ever had for a President since the World 'Splooged-Forth' the '1st Human.' Now that I have 'ranted'/vented' I can go to my corner now and choose to either play Guitar,...or Slice my Wrist's, or 'Come Out Boxing' to fight stupidity and misunderstanding,... Think I'll go play Guitar in my Fortress of Solitude, my studio that saves me, keeps me sane,...and protect's me, from the sickness beyond my front door. That is my safety net,...not the Lord,...but the 'lock's' on my door's. Rock On!

To answer your question sugar-bear..
Kathleen was at the restaurant because Dennis (knowing Ray was following him) lured her there to portray the APPEARANCE of infidelity. Dennis lured her there saying.."Your husband is in trouble" (or something similar),"Has he been acting strange?". Dennis asked her questions as if HE was investigating Ray. That's why Dennis told Kathleen not to tell anyone that they met. She met with him out of concern for her husbands' strange behavior. Thinking that she was helping (or possibly hurting) him...she denied having lunch with anyone.

And later Kathleen did wind up in bed with Dennis after poor Amy was shot and Ray went stupidly beserk and shot Dennis.

Because Amy is just about the only mature character in the movie. She's the real hero of the movie. Amy's very sweet also and showed lots of dignity and courage and integrity, much more so than either Raymond or most of the other characters. It's kind of amusing.

What's amusing is your delusional obsession for a minor character who had very little importance to the main plot. I think that the only reason you like her so much is because you're a huge fangirl for Laurie Metcalf and her performance in the movie.

Thats an interesting point. I would look at it differently. Peck met her ya to mention raymonds's strange behaviour. But he didnt KNOW he was followed unitil AFTERWARD. thats why he physically abused avilla in the lift for following WITHOUT his knowledge
by the way HOW he knew is another days work...it is probably in the cutting room floor

Peck posed as someone from the force and met with Kathleesn to tell her that they felt ray was working too hard and it was recommended he received therapy.

Kathleen was open for the ploy because ray had been working so much he was neglecting her and he didnt talk to her like he did before, so she was already suspicious that something was off with him.

Peck knew Ray was tailing him and set him up to find him having lunch with Kathleen. He further twisted the knife by telling kathleen not to tell ray about their meeting, which later only made her look more guilty in her husband'd eyes.

He assaulted Ray in the elevator to pay him back for Ray beating him up earlier in the movie AND to further mess with Ray by handing him his wife's panties and taunting him about "sleeping" with Kathleen.

She never cheated but dennis made it seem that way. Dennis was a master manipulator and he knew their marriage was a bit rocky which he used to his advantage
