Time setting

The original crime happened in 1984, but the setting of this film...the cars, the house interior...you'd think it was the 50';s or 60's, but then you see the Tacoma Dome in the background, and that wasn't built until...uh...well it was completed in 1983. I remember when AC/DC set fire to it, there was a long period of reconstruction, and then the first act to play there again was AC/DC, and I think they nearly set fire to it again, so they banned pyrotechnics.
But the setting of the film is very hard to actually nail down.

Well, no, not with the picture of John Paul II, it clearly was not in the '50s or '60s.

I'm sure it was just set in the period it was filmed in. Though they took the idea from a crime in 84 they sorta made it they're own. As far as the cars and home interiors being out of date, well it was filmed in Tacoma! Hell this is Washington, in the 80's most of the home interiors and cars were somewhat behind times everyplace in this state. Seattle wasn't much further along then. This was a much better place to live when we were a little behind the times and backwater compared to now.
