'Wanda' and 'I love you are' two of my favourite movies, yet I know little else of Kevin's work, thanks for mentioning 'Sophie's Choice'. I'll check it out :)

He is also fantastic in Dave, In & Out and The Big Chill.

I had actually thought Kevin met his future wife Phoebe on the set of this movie, but according to imdb he met her on the set of "The Big Chill" back in 1983 when she was 20 and he was 36 and then they married 6 years later, the year before this movie was released. You learn something new everyday.

For he is a Pirate King!
He is! Hoorah for the Pirate King!

Rent "The Pirates of Penzance" with him in it.

I actually saw a film I loved as a kid and never realised before that Kevin was in it. Silverado (1985), possibly the only western movie I really like, not sure why though... huge cast though for the time.

Kevin Kline
Kevin Costner
Danny Glover
Scott Glenn
Brian Dennehy
Johnn Cleese (It's really John Cleese but I didn't want to break the chain of 5-letter names)
Rosanna Arquette
Jeff Goldblum

Me too, I loved it! Kevin Kline's pretty much great in everything I've seen him, I loved him in Wild Wild West too.

Gordon: "If you wish to kill me, I only ask that you aim at my heart which has loved this country so much."
Loveless: "Shoot 'em in the head."
Gordon: *under his breath* "Damn."

I prefer Kline in this film, Dave, and Soapdish rather than AFCW.

Thanks for the great description of this film! I love your description of forgetting certain films you watched when younger, then watching them years later, to find they are even funnier than you remember.

This happened to me with A Fish Called Wanda the other day, which suddenly appeared on a cable channel after not airing for years. Though it's funny--Jamie Lee Curtis yelling at Kevin Kline, "Oh, NO! To call you stupid is an insult to stupid people! I've known SHEEP who could outwit you!"--the scene with Otto insulting Archie's wife and claiming that if it weren't for him (an American), she'd be speaking German since Hitler would have won--Or poor Michael Palin's repeated attempts to kill the old lady--The true comic genius is Kline.

Lawrence Kasdan shows his skill at ensemble casting, as in The Big Chill and Silverado (glad someone mentioned that--I'd forgotten!). I Love You to Death has one of the best casts ever! But again, it's really Kline as the clueless Joey Boca, who steals the show.

Mama Nadja: Could you see what he [guy with baseball bat] looked like?

Joey: (irritated) Yeahh...he looked like Abraham Lincoln...comin' up to bat!

Making his wife and mother-in-law, who are trying to poison him, play Monopoly and sit on the porch swing, singing Italian love songs! hilarious!

I love his weird declaration of love to Rosalie at the end: "We're doomed to be together, just like Romeo and Juliet!" lol

They reteamed Kline/Cleese/Curtis for "Fierce Creatures", and Kline has a double role. It's hilarious, too! It might edge out "Wanda" for me because of the outrageous ways they try to show that animals such as prairie dogs are vicious, dangerous animals to increase zoo business.

I recall the first time I saw him~as the Pirate King in "The Pirates of Penzance". He made me think of Errol Flynn and Douglas Fairbanks Sr. and Jr. What an amazing performer he is: comedy, drama, singing and dancing. AND, he's extraordinarily handsome. He's like a Golden Age star.

I liked almost everything Kevin is in. I just couldn't decide my top favorite. In fact I have almost all except the 4 I can't watch and Pirates of Penzance right in my own home. (The 4 I can't watch are Consenting Adults, The Anniversary Party, Trade and No Strings Attached.) I met him when I was 16 going on 17 as an early birthday present. He was nice and I can still see his eyes looking at me, and feel his huge hand when I was shaking hands, and hear his melting voice saying my name back to me after I said it. Even though my experience was 3+ years ago, it feels like yesterday. I can't wait for Ricki and the Flash to come home.
