The studio that acquired the rights, MGM, attempted to make a cheap sequel in the mid-1990s with new characters; Brigitte Nielsen was tipped to star alongside Matthias Hues, no Dolph nor Benben though...

I remember reading an interview with Matthias Hues in Impact magazine in the early-to-mid Nineties in which he stated that he'd personally obtained the sequel rights and was working on a script. Never heard or read anything further about it.

Yep, gotta agree.
They had great on-screen chemistry for some strange reason and it worked really well. Funnily enough, had their chemistry not been so great this movie would have been a real stinker.
