according to jackie in various interviews,he hated this movie,but he made it as away of helping his old friend (the director).
apparently jackie has bought the rights to this movie,and has vowed that it will never get a new release.
it goes in line with his image being a good guy,and not being portrayed negatively.
he said in the same interview that he wants everyone to be able to watch his movies,and too much violence will not allow that.
It was less a favor for the director as it was Jackie doing a favor for Jimmy Wang Yu (he was one of the producers and one of the stars). Wang Yu supposedly helped Chan out early in his career, settling a dispute between Jackie and director Lo Wei. Wang Yu has some gangster connections, so depending on just how Jimmy helped Jackie, Chan might actually be really in his debt. I've heard that Lo Wei actually tried to get Jackie killed and Jimmy Wang Yu basically saved Chan's life.
