Uniform

Why is ryan apologizing for not wearing the uniform? He has the unform but not the combat one. Why is that mandatory?

reply

He was apologizing FOR wearing the uniform... not for NOT WEARING it.

He was wearing a Naval Officer's uniform as part of a cover identity, but he is civilian and not authirized to wear it.

That's what had Captain Davenport upset until Admiral Painter set him straight.

I see now. Would that be really so upsetting for any captain? Under those circumstances it is acceptable to wear a uniform even if he is not a Naval Officer, don't you think?.

One other question. Who is in command on that ship? Admiral or Captain who got upset? Admiral outranks a Captain, but the Captain of a ship is in command of the ship, is that right?

reply

Captain Davenport would be the CO or Commanding Officer of the Carrier. He is in charge and gives the orders for the Carrier.

Admiral Painter is in charge of the entire Battlegroup.... All the ships, including the Carrier, the other Warships, the escorts, the Supply ships, and any attached Submarines.

Ryan wasn't just a civilian - he was an agent for the CIA. CIA and military don't always get along the best.

It helped out that Ryan was a former Marine officer AND had some grit about him, as opposed to being a pencil-pushing analyst who doesn't care if his info gets someone killed.

Makes sense. Thank you
