Jeffrey Pelt

I love his character, he certainly has some of the best lines:

"I'm a politician which means I'm a cheat and a liar. And when I'm not kissing babies I'm stealing their lollipops."

"Your aircraft have dropped enough sonar buoys in the North Atlantic so that a man could walk from Greenland to Iceland to Scotland without getting his feet wet!"

Has he featured in any other films or in any other of Clancy's books?

reply

I don't remember him in any other Clancy books. If he was, it was only early on and I haven't read most of them in years.

And the character didn't show up in any of the other movies.

Jeffrey Pelt was the National Security Advisor.

In later Novels that position was filled by others; James Cutter in Clear and Present Danger, Elizabeth Elliott in Sum of all Fears, Jack Ryan himself in Debt of Honor, Then Ben Goodley when Jack is President.

I think he might be in Cardinal in the Kremlin, but its been so long since read that.

I loved Richard Jordan's portrayal of him. He's always got such a sardonic air about him.

He was great in this, but the only other thing I really remember him in is Secret Of My Success. I know he's in Logan's Run but I haven't seen that in over 20 years probably. I've been meaning to watch it as I actually own it on Blu Ray, only because it came in one of those Triple Feature things with Soylent Green and The Omega Man. I'm sure I saw whatever Tales From The Crypt episode he was in, but again it's been a long time. I've only seen bits and pieces of Dune (just enough to know I don't want to see the rest), and I'm not sure if he was in any of those bits.

I'm probably more familiar with the guy who played the captain of the Enterprise, from seeing him on the Starship Enterprise.

"Dan Marino should die of gonorrhea and rot in hell. Would you like a cookie son?"

He was pretty good in Dune but was a very small part. He was very good in Raise The Titanic. Over acted but he was good. And he was set to be in The Fugitive with Harrison Ford. He was going to be the doctor who aided and screwed him in the film, but was sick from cancer. He died shortly after. Would have been great I think in the film.

He also played General Armistead in Gettysburg. I thought he played the character with great empathy showing his tortured feelings of both fighting for the Confederacy but also fighting against his best friend (the Union commander defending against Pickett's Charge was Winfield Hancock, Armistead's closest friend)

reply

True.

Besides Longstreet the best character in that (boring but educational) movie.

I'm just on my way up to Clavius.
