Spoiler: burning plot hole question

During the scene where Harry and Marv are robbing the Murphy's house, Peter calls there and leaves a message.....

But.....
I thought they went to Florida. So why is he calling them?
Also I thought the tree knocked out the phone lines and MA BELL power guy said its gonna take a couple of days to patch them back up, and if the phone lines were fixed......why didn't Peter just call home and perhaps leave a message on his machine if Kevin didn't pick up.
