Why was the female clerk so nosey?

When Kevin was at the cash register, asking where his parents was one thing but asking where he lived?..kind of creepy

reply

Because she knew he was a dirty liar and was trying to suss him out.

I think I once read a trivia note that said the cashier was actually Marv's girlfriend and she was trying to get information about what houses they (he and Harry) should rob. As always, though, I could be mistaken, but that's my understanding of why the cashier was so nosy.

reply

Interesting, but I really doubt that was the plan.

Anybody here see the trailer? The original scene had the store manager walk up to where the cashier was standing and asked Kevin where his parents were at. This leads me to believe the cashier was just being that - a nosy Nate.

Besides, she looked really young, so I'm guessing the cashier's just your ordinary snoopy teenager working a boring job.

Erm, she sees an eight year-old alone with a shopping trolley full of stuff. That's not normal. I'd be more creeped out if she treat him like any other customer without asking if he was with an adult. If anything she gave up too easy.

reply

I guess she found it odd that an 8 year old kid was shopping all by himself.

reply

My mom used to send me to the store for stuff all the time. Very normal.

reply

Not really. People that fish for moments that they think should creep people out, they are creepy.

reply

People are creepy that call out creepy people for fishing for creepy moments. Oh shit! Now I just did it! Is this a paradox loop? I hope I didn't just mess with the space time continuum.

We had a discussion about this a year ago, but I'm guessing it's buried somewhere on this board.

I believe the reason why the cashier asks for his parents is because he was a minor at the time. If Kevin were to fall and break his neck on company property, it would be a lawsuit waiting to happen. Had his parents accompanied him if they were around, then it wouldn't be a problem.

I would have lied and told the cashier my mom was in the car and just sent me in to grab a few quick groceries. It's not like they're going to walk outside to the parking lot and check. That rarely ever happens.

When I was Kevin's age, no cashier in the world ever said anything similar to me back in the 1990s. I bought my items and handed them the money. After that, I was on my way.

I didn’t find it creepy, more a case of her suspecting something wasn’t quite right, like he was living alone. As a society, we should be concerned if we think a child is in danger. I once went to a zombie movie and there was an old man with a boy hiding in the corner. I sat behind and was creeped out because I thought he was a pedophile who was trying to groom a child by showing him scary movies. I told the staff and they kicked them out.

She was extremely nosey! Enough 8 year old children will go to the store themselves. Maybe not grocery shopping, but maybe his parents were around somewhere or maybe they were sick in bed and he was helping them out. Who knows, no reason to be so suspicious! She also needed a dye job, by the way.
