Did the parents find out about the bad guys?

Did anyone find out about what Kevin did to the robbers and how they got arrested?

reply

In real life, the parents would have been contacted immediately about what happened.

What I wondered was if the parents ever found evidence of Kevin's booby traps. I know they would have discovered the tar on the basement steps.

I don't think so. Harry and Marv were arrested in a different house. And it's not like they would have broadcast the fact that they tried hitting the McCallister house and got the crap beat out of them by an 8-year-old. Letting everyone in prison know that an 8-year-old kicked your ass isn't exactly good publicity. Even besides that, Harry was trying to minimize the number of houses the police would be aware of them robbing, which is why he was so mad at Marv for leaving the water running in every house. So the Wet Bandits wouldn't have mentioned the McCallister house, and the police wouldn't have any reason to believe anything happened there.

I think in the Home Alone 2 novel it mentioned somewhere that they knew of the events and Uncle Frank was reading the papers and said "Hey look, The Wet Bandits have escaped."

reply

Nope there is not mention of it at all in the first two movies, it is a difffenret story with Home Alone 4 through.

reply

Home Alone 4 was just a bad fever dream, it doesn't take place in the Home Alone universe. For true Home Alone fans, only Home Alone 1 and 2 exist.

I think Kate would have become very aware of Kevin's traps when she slipped on the still iced over front steps and cracked her head open on Christmas morning.

That's the weird part. Kevin's parents never seemed to hear a word about the Wet Bandits, not in this movie, or in the sequel, and there's no evidence that Kevin told them. On the other hand, they probably wouldn't have believed him if he told them he held off two cat burglars using nothing but his wits and traps in his own house. Chances of believing an 8-year-old telling you that are low without solid evidence, and it looks as if he cleaned up the mess before his family showed up.

I will say it seems like it would be kind of hard to clean the tar off the basement steps.

Today was the first time I've ever watched this realizing the cops just arrest the wet bandits and aren't at his house. He most certainly wouldn't have been left *ahem* home alone if they knew what had happened really went on that night. What on earth did old man Marley tell them when he called?

reply

Did the old guy actually ever realize Kevin was home alone?

reply

He had to have known but perhaps he was just letting Kevin learn how to become a man while secretly looking over his shoulder

reply

Kind of irresponsible.
