Alternate Ending? spoiler inside !!

A long time ago I saw this movie on German Television, and remember the ending very well: Salomon was on a train and the train derailed or something and fell in a river, Salomon gets out but seems to drown in the water. The End
This ending matches the beginning of the movie where he is in the water and is rescued.
Recently I got the dvd and in the end Salomon meets his brother after the war and they stay together. The End. Nothing about a train.

Also I remember a scene were Salomon has dinner with a old couple (former nazi officer he met earlier I think). THis is not in the dvd either.

Can anyone clearify this?

Are you sure you're not thinking of "Zentropa"? I don't think there ever was an alternate ending, particularly since Salomon is a real person and the story teller, so it wouldn't have made a lot of sense for him to die.

Anyway, "Zentropa" came out at around about the same time, deals with WWII and it does have a scene where a train derails and plunges into a river and the protagonist of the story drowns. Amazing film too!

Oh, and I think "Zentropa" was actually released as "Europa" in most of the world too.

Well you may be right saugoof. I'm certain I saw Europa Europa 15 years (!) ago, and perhaps Europa also some time later and mixed up the stories between these two. Now I will try to watch Europa too and find out.
