I could've sworn this was made in the mid 90's, like 95 or 96. Did anyone else think this before seeing the date, those that saw it after 1995?

You might be right. It was made in 1990, but I don't think it was released in America till 1996.

It was released in the US in 1991, at least NYC and Seattle, according to IMDB.
What makes you think it wasn't released in US until 1996?
