How come John Hersey isn't listed in the credits?

I was just wondering that. The book didn't even get a mention here. I saw this movie. It was quite good but somehow it just seems strange to me that all the charaters are speaking in English, and then occassionally Japanese is being spoken by some minor charaters. It would be better if it's in only English or only Japanese.
