I don't get it...

Just watched this movie for the first time because I thought I was in for a real spectacle after reading reviews talk about how "brutal" and disturbing this was. (Yes, I like disturbing films. Maybe I'm messed up but I do)
Anyway, this film is boring as sh!t. The ONLY "disturbing" things in this are the sound effects/"score" whenever someone gets killed.

Maybe I missed something?
I just don't get it.
Even Cannibal Holocaust is more disturbing.

There weren't a lot of movies like that back when it came out. The use of video cameras to add realism was a pretty new idea at the time.

I think it was disturbing when it came out but yeah I too watched it today for the first time, and in 2016 with movies like Deadgirl (2008), Martyrs (2008) and The Human Centipede (First Sequence) (2009) been made since, they kinda make this movie look like a Disney movie lol.

Okay maybe that's taking it too far but yeah, it was probably out of the norm in the 80's.

And I agree that it got rather boring alot.

We crash into each other, just so we can feel something.

The Human Centipede (First Sequence) (2009) is a joke, honestly not disturbing at all. More like a perverted horror comedy.

Martyrs and Human Centipede are disturbing for their over the top carnage.

Henry is disturbing for its unrelenting realism.

Perhaps, but if The Devil's Rejects was able to get an R-rating, I don't see how this couldn't today.

Well, I have watch quite a few that are rated wrong and have no clue why. Some as Unrated to be actually like a PG-13 and some R as like PG-13 or PG-13 like a rated R or Unrated. The MPAA is totally messed up. One movie to name that is R and should be TV-14 and not trying to piss people off because they like the movie, but I hated it. The Conjuring. It is like watching a TV movie on the big screen. I did not get scared once watching it in the theater and if it went on television, there would be nothing to cut out of it. That is how tame it is.

This has more gore but is tame too. This would actually be a rated R rating more than "The Conjuring" would. This is nothing compared to "Dead Alive" which is unrated. "Brain Dead" is the R rated version of "Dead Alive" and those movies are accurate in ratings. Like a lot are not done that way. So I can see the controversy of why people complain about ratings.

They need better people on the MPAA. Pisses me off that most horror movies now a days are becoming more PG-13 instead of R now. It is more PG-13 and unrated, instead of R. I rather see R and unrated. I don't give a crap what others say about scary movies don't need to be an R or unrated to be scared, but to me it is more entertaining than failing crap jump scares or sounds that are so loud that all it does is hurt your ears, more than be scary.

I don't see the rating system being fixed ever. There is a lot of unrated movies that should not be considered unrated because you can't really tell the difference from the R and unrated ones. Only some you can tell. I love the Hellraiser: Hellbound. That one is awesome. Anything like that is good stuff. Scary is like Aliens. I like Aliens more than Alien because of more aliens in Aliens than Alien.

You can say different than me but my website is based on how I feel here. Horror Community site called Awesome Bryner.

No more IMDB boards for me!

Couldn't have worded it better myself. 👍🏻

it depends on your level of empathy and the will to suspend disbelief.

Yea I just saw it for the first time too. I "get it." There's no good or bad guys or plot...on purpose. It's just this series of events played out in front of us. That can be a bit disturbing.

I appreciate it for it's history but thankfully it was less than an hour and a half or I would've probably fallen asleep.

I think a lot of the disturbance comes because of how real a lot of the things in the film could actually be. Films like human centipedes are just torture porn.

To make a great film you need three things - the script, the script and the script -Alfred Hitchcock
