I agree, it should come out on DVD and who better than Criterion! I have a copy of this film on Laserdisc (I have a bunch of films on LD and a working player even!!)but I would love to have it releaased on DVD. I saw it at an art house when it was released in Champaign, IL. My kids saw it also and they ask about it once in a while.

Good link and all but they are region 2 DVD's. That I believe is a problem for those of us in the States.

Being an old Kurosawa fan I enjoyed this film when I saw it on TV, fortunately I think I recorded it onto VHS.

This is the 105 minute cut version of the film as opposed to the 120 or so minute full version (125 according to IMDB, 119 according to Amazon.co.jp and 121 according to this month's TV guide...)

So although it says "Japanese Version" it aint.

Unless they mean DVD from Japan of cut version.

Which they then made a copy of and stuck on English subtitles...
