Need to see this flick.

I take it from the only other post that there isn't a DVD version of this film yet. Anyone know where I can order a VHS copy? You'd think eBay...

reply

I got mine off eBay. Keep looking. I recommend making a favorite search and having eBay notify you by email if anything comes up. This is hard to find.

P.S. This movie was never release as a mass market video. That means it's a full price movie. For those of you that don't understand, back in the early day of video, you couldn't buy movies for $19.99 like is the standard today. All movies were $80-$100. Later on, a movie price might, and I stress might, drop to a more reasonable price. Then (if I recall correctly) it was the first Batman movie that was released at a mass-market price of $19.99, and people swarm in droves to buy it, making the studios realise that they could make more money in volume if they sold the movie at a fair price. Now we take this price for granted. Well, this movie was never released at a mass market price. Several years ago I found a video store that would order this for me, but it would cost $75.00 retail. I don't know if the film is still in print anymore, so you may not even have this option. I was lucky enough to find my copy on eBay for $25.00.

There's always the LaserDisc format. I happen to own it even though my LD player has gone the way of the dodo. Just a suggestion if you truly want the movie.

reply

Problematically, the Laserdisk is only 109 minutes long, whereas the IMDB places the movie's length at over twice that. Is that a typo or is there a different cut on LD?

reply

The 215 minutes is the original length of the film when first shown in Japan. The export version was heavily edited down to 109 minutes.

Hi,wcook65,

I spent a few years to look for this Heaven and Earth (Ten to Chi to)Movie, in either VHS or DVD. Last week I finally brought one DVD from eBay's [email protected].
Very quick response and delivery from the seller.
Please go and have a look. As well do let other Heaven and Earth fans get to know where they can buy this movie.

Best regards

Alan

I don't think there's any versions of the 205 minute cut around on home formats. Japanese DVD runs about 120.

I found a decent bootleg of the Japanese dvd on Ebay. It has English Subtitles, but navagating the menus takes a little practice.
