Was she a Druid?

Well? Yes, I believe she was an ancient Druid.

She seemed to be! Either that, or a wood nymph.

It's hard to believe that an ancient tree lord could not defend itself from a chainsaw-welding redneck, yet it could totally demolish a bunch of drunk sexuallly crazed asshats trying to get to our beloved Druid!

Am I the only one who rooted for the beautiful druid to kick ass at the end??

She was a dryad--a tree spirit.

She was specifically a hamadryad, a type of dryad whose life force is particularly linked with her tree. That's why she was dying when the tree was being cut down.

As for druids, they're human priests for the Celtic Tribes. You can read more about them here:

After seeing this movie once again, I still hold my opinion that she's a hamadryad. However, she could also be a druid considering the fact that not all nymphs resided in Greece (the Greeks believed they were everywhere and not just Greece, so finding one in England, Japan, Brazil, Alaska, etc. is not that far-fetched) and thus not all of them likely believed in the same gods. Thus in conclusion, she's an English hamadryad who became a druid.

Jenny Seagrove described her character as "Druid nanny who became a tree." She told Universal that she wanted to be a real nanny who kidnaps babies. But later she admitted that she was wrong.
