One of the most powerful movie endings ever!

Not the cheeriest or happiest, but gut-wrenchingly honest and real and hopeful.

I hated the ending... It was terrible.

Glad you took the time to disagree, moron.

Why would he/she be a moron for not agreeing with you?
By the way, I love this film and the ending is brilliant. One of the better Hollywood endings. (Of course Casablanca has the ultimate ending).

WTF? Why so hostile, he didn't say anything mean to you? You just attacked the user.

I didn't like the ending, but I understood why they did it.

This is one of my favorite movies, and one I feel that's constantly underrated. The ending is both heart-wrenchingly real, yet also hopeful and really beautiful.

The acting, music and cinematography really combine to make the ending a moment of power and poignance. I still love the movie many years later. I also think it's one of Andie MacDowell's best performances (she's often ripped for her work, but she's done a lot of really great work when given a good director, like Weir or Soderbergh).

I agree Green Card had a powerful ending. There was just something about it. I HATED the ending of Casablanca. Ruined the whole movie.

Well said Kelly Kelly. I love the end of this film; the mix of sadness and romance is so well-balanced, but what really makes it for me is the use of music - first 'Pour Bronte' by Hans Zimmer (genius!) and then 'eyes on the prize'. What a fantastic combo!

You hated the ending of Casablanca?

Please don't comment on films any more. You're making yourself look ridiculous.

reply

Very. Also when she says "NO!" So much pain in that.

Great Ending! Makes me teary every time.

Yep...Great ending ssong...but then... all the music in the film is 'perfect'... :)

Their scene together at the end was one of the most realistic-looking, romantic, swoon-inducing things I have ever seen.

I loved the ending too....it's different from other romantic comedies. I like that it's left up to the viewer to finish the story of Bronte and Georges. It's romantic without being sappy.

This is definitely a romantic comedy that I'm not ashamed to admit to loving. My mom bought this for me a few years back on DVD for Valentine’s Day, and I had never seen it, or had never heard of it. I was reluctant about it, but I ended up adoring the film. My mom made a great choice! So thanks mom!

Mr. Darcy: Not if I can help it.

i like the ending too. ironically i had forgotten it, from years ago

this is a real movie. i mean a REAL movie with heart and all of the requisite elements of what 'used to' make up a hollywood film. excellent original screenplay... excellent original score... two rising stars... themes had finger on the pulse...

(i just bought the soundtrack now)

as for the ending, i like the openendedness of it. i call these 'wide blue yonder' films. (i even made a list of some titles. http://www.imdb.com/list/ls009873842/) i like it when the film leaves the 'afterstory' up to the viewer's imagination. you don't know what happens after the credits, but you think you know. or you are left to wonder; IOW it's not conclusive. i love wondering how it all continues, where they end up. it's cool to 'wonder' IMO lol ....for example, form the same year 1990, pretty woman and this one... pretty woman is conclusive: he returns to get her, but in this one, you don't know for sure. that's open ended. i like that. i dunno i guess it's the mystery of it or something. it's somehow sanguine, poignant.

as for casablanca, it ended just right. i understand viewers wanted rick to leave, but the romantic/ironic reality of his 'duty' hugely overshadows what would have otherwise been the obvious choice.

but back to greencard. the contrast throughout culminating in the reverse tension at the end, was just so well played. what a lovely little gem of a movie. and moreover, it reminds me of life circa 1990 which is another little bonus offered by the movie. i dunno i guess i'm sentimental that way lol movies are my anchors to certain memories and certain eras. i was in college then, and i remember the huge response the public had to this film when it was in release. i remember how everyone was swept up by it (and pretty woman too, that same year)

also i think it's safe to say this film is what put enya on the map.

anywho, i ramble. well film fans, enjoy your sunday. i'm off to AFRIKA CAFE
