Definitely one of the worst studio (released to theater) films ever.
Not even worthy of straight to video release. Just atrocious.
How this got the "green light" I'll never know.
Apparently, before the studios got a hold of it, John Esposito's script was really scary. At least that's what King said in an interview after the film's release.

anyone saying this is 'the worst movie ever' or idiotic things like that, really should start watching b-movies. this is a GREAT b-movie.

shareThis B-movie ranks an A-minus in my book, and I've seen a lot of quality films as well as trash. This is fiercely entertaining, and the art direction is stunning. This film is so much better than I expected -- and much better than its detractors say, in my opinion.

The apo'strophe 's i's u'sed in PO'SE'S'SIVE. Plural (for tho'se of you who don't know that word it mean's MORE THAN ONE) you do not u'se the apo'strophe. You also u'se an apo'strophe in contracted word's like "it's" (it is), "he's" (he is), "they're (they are), etc.
Absolutely. The overuse of apostrophes (or use in incorrect places) drive me completely bug-freaking nuts!

Garbage in your eyes maybe. I think the movie has a certain charm. The whole "forgotten world under the basement" idea is pretty cool. It's a mildly interesting B-Movie with some strange acting performances. A guilty pleasure!

Man, that pisses me off. I freaking hate it when studios turn scripts to crap. They should let the writer/director do what they want with the film. After all, writers and directors are the ones who, you know, are writing and directing the film. share

Any movie that has a large group of rats sewer surfing to The Beach Boys should not be villified with such haste. Lighten up, its a good b-movie! Much worse out there.
I have to agree. The short story by Stephen King was very good.
This movie could have been good. The acting, atmosphere, ect was all sub-par!
I don't like remakes but this one needs to be remade!
This movie is garbage! the ultimate in cheesy. but it's a good 3rd rate horror flick to pass the time away.

diezman is right. This should be redone. I just think the "original" was a victim of a poor budget and bad decisions on the part of the studio. You can tell this movie had the potential but never made it. If only, right? It's not garbage, it just lost its way.
shareremakes are a bunch of B.S. hollywood can't make an original film anymore. I hate remakes. I would rather have time and money be spent on pursuing original ideas/voices instead of being wasted on another ill attempt to revamp some old film in order to make a quick buck.
