This movie is just so BORING!!!

It goes on for what feels like an eternity and nothing exciting happens. Watching the dull everyday lives of these scumbag gangsters talk about how cool they are and occasionally killing someone for just for looking at them funny is not my idea of entertainment.

Well I like it. And frankly it's more fast paced than the Godfather.

reply

yea this movie is a lot more fast paced than godfather. i liked them both but godfather was better i think

reply

The Godfather is slower because it's more developed and the story arcs are more involved. I won't go as far as to call it boring but Goodfellas is the fast food version of a mob film, Casino isn't that much better but it is better.

reply

I found the Godfather boring. I don't intend to watch it again.

Robert DeNiro is not in The Godfather.

reply

Uh, he's in The Godfather part 2 and won an Oscar for it.

reply

That movie is called The Godfather Part II

reply

Yeah but it's still part of the same story/universe/trilogy so technically he was in The Godfather timeline in some shape or form.

reply

I didn't suggest he wasn't in the franchise.

I replied to SomeCodhopper a year ago, I don't remember what he said specifically.

I enjoy The Godfather, but it's Hollywood. At the time it came out, my family, who are Castellammarese, all mocked it as an unrealistic, Hollywood fantasy version of Sicilians/Mafiosi. Goodfellas, on the other hand, felt like a spot-on depiction of the world and lives of the mob families.

Accuracy aside, I just enjoy Goodfellas more. Its story is more engaging, and its characters more fleshed out and interesting. I don't dislike The Godfather by any stretch, I just find Goodfellas to be a much better movie.

I don’t care for this movie as much as most but I wouldn’t say it was boring. It’s fast paced, and there’s always something going on.

I do find it to be somewhat anti-climatic. The way it ended with him ratting out his partners just didn’t deliver as much as I thought it was going to.

reply

It seems boring today because mob life has been well covered in film. At the time it was exciting because it offered a story about a real life mob figure versus speculative fiction aka The Godfather. An early effort to look at the mafia on the street level versus a mansion or compound.

reply

Maybe they should do a movie on your life then. We would see how interesting people find it 25 years after it's made.

reply

Totally disagree with you. Maybe the movie is a little longer than it needs to be, but I definitely don't think it's boring.

reply

Mother fukker! Keep him here! Keep him here Henry!

reply

That's racist.

reply

I don´t know about boring but I do think its overrated. Never cared much for Ray Liotta. He looks more like a used car salesman than a respected Mob guy. The part I did find believable was when he became a junkie coke head.

reply

Ray Liotta was not playing a respected mob guy though, only a mafia associate. Have you seen a picture of the real Henry Hill? He looked more like a mailman.

reply

Has been a while since I´ve seen it. I just remember certain parts of the narration where he makes out like he is respected even though he was just an associate.

reply

I thought the movie made it clear he's not very high on the mob pecking order. He was half irish, so he could never be a made guy.

reply

So was Jimmy Conway and he was highly respected.

reply

meh this movies perfect to me

reply

Op should stick to rom-coms

reply

Funny you say that since most of those aren't that fast paced either. Should have posted, "OP should stick to action films."
