The buzz so far hasn't been too good...

sounds like much ado about nothing from what I've heard so far.

You can put lipstick on a pig but at the end of the day, it's still a pig.

I don't think GF 3 is a "pig", but I don't think FFC did himself any favors with this re-release either. From what I heard it manages to anger even defenders of the film.

reply

That doesn't leave many left, does it... LOL.

reply

this film has a lot of admirers... I don't know where people are getting the idea this film is universally hated... it isn't. It IS flawed, unquestionably.

Speaking only for myself who is a big fan of I and II and have many friends and family who also love I and II who can quote hours of either, I don't know *anyone* who watches III or has anything good to say about it.

It may not be universally hated, but within my circle of friends and family, it certainly is.

GF III was one of maybe only 10 movies I ever watched in my 63 years where I kept checking my watch hoping it would be over soon.

I'll watch the reedit at some point.

"but within my circle of friends and family"

Well, look outside your circle of friends and family, cause there's a whole, big world out there. And some of us love Godfather III.

reply

That's fine, but if you read the flow of the thread, you'll see I never said there was nobody who love GFIII.

reply

The reviews I've thread say it's not much different from the original cut, but the new scenes and tighter editing make it a somewhat better version.

reply

I haven't watched it yet, but the comments that the editing is tighter (outside of the final edit at the film's end) has me wondering if he actually fixed that awkward scene at his NYC estate after the attempted assassination and killing of the other mafia dons. When he collapses into a diabetic seizure he starts screaming and hallucinating but there's this weird quick edit when it moves 3 to 5 seconds forward and we see Michael, Vincent, and Connie move suddenly due to the quick edit. This always bothered me from a viewing perspective and I always wondered if the original scene footage had damaged film therefore it couldn't be fixed in time and principal photography was already wrapped up.

reply

"When he collapses into a diabetic seizure"

I'm pretty sure that's exactly the same.

reply

Sadly, that weird cut is still there. I'm with you on the theory that the original footage has been damaged by the time GF III hit theaters.

reply

As if Sofia Coppola is as buyable as an actress now as she was in 1990.

reply

Eh it is shorter which is a plus I felt it flowed a little better than the theatrical but I do not like what they did with the ending. Also some of the moments I was hoping they’d edit out they didn’t, Sofia’s “then I’ll love him first” line, the donkey noises, the opera music and the scene where Michael puts a knife to his throat are all still there.

reply

Why did they do it? I heard they had plans for part IV but fell through when Mario Puzo died because he was helping to write it.
