The helicopter hit was just bad.

Rewatching the film in my Godfather series marathon, I was sort of getting in to its flow and starting to appreciate the somber, quiet pace that reminded me of the originals. But then there is that ridiculous scene of Joey Zaza arranging for a machine gunner in a helicopter to wipe out the Mafia heads in New Jersey. It was so jarring and didn't fit with the vibe of the series at all, and managed to take me right out of the movie. It was like a scene from a typical 80s action movie, like Die Hard or Predator, but worse. What was even more silly was how neither Michael, Vincent, or Al Neri were killed, but 90% of the occupants in the room were. And the "lucky coat" gag was juvenile.
