I know I'm gonna get hate for this.

I love this movie. It's certainly not the best of the series but it's still a FANTASTIC movie. I find Coppola understood how this story needed to end and what better way then ending the story by showing Michael's sins catching up to him in the worst way possible. The death of his only daughter with her last words being "Dad?" As if she's saying "Dad. Why?" Such a heartbreaking moment especially the cry of agony Michael does. And hey while I'm at it I believe this is the best performance by Talia Shire and was shocked she didn't get at least a golden globe nomination because I felt she did a wonderful job. Also I believe Sofia Coppola didn't do a good job at all however the look of disgust she gives her father after Vincent says they can't be together and the tears she sheds when Vincent touches her shoulder was great acting! I wish she had acted like that throughout the film. Overall I love this film and I'm satisfied this is the ending to the series.

I think this is how most people probably feel, if they're being honest. It's a great movie on it's own merits, it just didn't measure up to the greatness of the first two. Regardless, the movie is still excellent and the ending is especially a satisfying end to the trilogy.

The more you watch it and understand the plot with the Vatican better for me it gets better. And trying to live up to the first two...well, that's just very hard obviously. The OP said pretty much how I feel. If they had chosen someone besides Sofia Coppola and maybe Andy Garcia would have helped a lot. And, of course, if they had just friggin paid Ribert Duvall and not put in George Hamilton (seriously? A guy famous for his tan) it would have been such a better film, IMHO. A shame as with a few small changes would have made it so much better. The Vatican plot was a little too confusing for many...but the fact that they were able to intertwine reality into fiction I found interesting and quite smart on their part.

I'm not gonna give you hate for it, you're just being honest, I myself did like the godfather part 3 but it didn't quite have the intensity of the first two, but al Pacino still did a really great job as Michael Corleone

First of all, I don't understand the negative and the hate for Sophia Coppala. I thought she did a fine job, and I thought Andy Garcia was fine as well. Talia Shire as Connie Corleone scared the crap outa me! She has nothing on the Borgias for chrissakes! I thought the plot involving the Vatican was intricate-I loved this move---however--it was so different from the first two movies. I wonder if this is where all the negativity originates from--

I thought all the performances were great, but AL Pacino's was obviously the standout for me

I agree with this whole thread. G3 is a very good movie in its own way. I happened to see it long after G1 and had not seen G2...G3 was so good I had to see all 3 again, and again and again....so what if Sophia C is not 'great', she certainly does not ruin this fine film.

I saw this when it came out, thought it was ok.

I saw this about 5 or 6 six years ago and I found Coppola intolerable, and horrifically cast. I also noticed a lot of homagey filler that might go unnoticed by fans, but irked me.

Andy Garcia had his moment, for about 5 years, and it will never return again, and for good reason. I lost interest about half way.

I do wonder how much better or worse it would have been with Winona Ryder in it.

I still appreciate the first two.

I like this film a lot too and always watch it when I do my TGF marathon. I also agree that Shire gave her best performance in this and Pacino's silent scream in the end was gut wrenching.

It's not the best of the trilogy, but I like it fine enough.

The thing is if this was a stand alone movie I really think it would at least be seen as simply good (not great, just good), perhaps on the level of A Bronx Tale? But since it is attached to two of the greatest films ever made it is seen as a failure.

The thing is I think the scenes with Michael and Vincent are very well done, and I enjoyed their dynamic. I also liked how Michael tries to atone for his past deeds which included Fredo's death. Sofia Coppola yeah she sucked and I really didn't like the opera scene (it just went on for too damn long).

But again I by no means think it is a bad movie and hell it got a Best Picture nomination, even though it falls very very short of the first two.

That's fine if you love it. No judgement from me anyways.
