Not Coppola's fault

He admits he absolutely hates the final product as much as everyone else.

He was given significantly less time to work on the film than he'd been given to work on each of the previous two films. He wanted to take an entire half a year to write the script, but the studio gave him only six weeks to meet their Christmas release date.

He was especially infuriated with the studio over the fact he couldn't get Robert Duvall as Tom Hagen. There was the salary issue, but Coppola was more than willing to accommodate it for him. He was infuriated with the fact that he couldn't recapture that character exploration through the way they interacted, as now he was forced to write Tom out altogether.

He really didn't want his daughter as Michael's daughter either. He wanted to push the release date back to accommodate for Winona Ryder, but the stupid studio insisted on their Christmas 1990 release date, forcing him to casting the only other actress he had any time to audition.

I'm sure most older IMDb members know this, but seeing so many members who blatantly put all the blame on him without much consideration these days made me need to address this.

I think you are going a bit overboard Gollum. Most people don't blame Coppola. However Copolla admitted that he took the job for money so that was probably a mistake. The story was really over in his opinion and in most people's eyes. yes the studio didn't help but I don't think people all blame coppola like you say they do

I didn't know most of these actually but I wish he considered Marisa Tomei instead.
