DID THEY EVER SAY HOW TOM HAGEN DIED?
share
I don't think so. It was a late rewrite after plans to get Duvall fell through. Coppola didn't want anyone else to play the character so he killed him, introduced his son, and reduced the role of the family lawyer.
shareThanks. That's very interesting. In a way it's kind of cool how his death is left unexplained all Michael Corleone says is, " he never got to see his son become a priest. I did " leaves it open to all kinds of thoughts. At least we know Michael Corleone didn't kill him as he would of confessed to it in confession, unless Tom Hagen had completely changed since the second one and had really turned against his family which I highly doubt
shareTake it how you want but in the newer non-Puzo written books, Tom was drowned in a swamp and his wallet was sent to the Corleones inside the mouth of a baby alligator.
Never hate your enemies. It affects your judgment. -Michael Corleone
Thanks Optimum Taurus, that's really interesting. Think I will have to read the books.
shareThe truth is, maybe we don't really need to know. Twenty years passed between GF2 and GF3. A lot could happen.
shareTalking about Hagen's death would draw too much attention to its being a plot contrivance designed to get around Duvall not wanting to appear in the sequel.
shareAgreed, I like the way they handled it. Like real life, it didn't need a huge background story/soliloquy. Any idea why Duvall didn't want to appear in part III though?
I drink your milkshake...
He wanted to, they just wouldn't pay him. Such BS him not being in it. George Hamilton seriously ??!!
shareAfter Fredo's demise, Tom took the reigns as the family lothario banging not two but seven cocktail waitresses at a time at the various Corleoen-owned Casinos in Vegas. Unfortunately, this led to a massive heart attack on the night of December 31, 1972 when Tom was engaged in sexual congress with twelve showgirls in the Executive Suite of the Tropigala.
shareI don't think so. He was never even mentioned in the movie.
shareConsidering how loved Tom was by his family, i wouldn't wanna be the one
who killed him, when the Corleones found out. Michael protected Tom every chance
he got and didn't want Tom near anything that could put him into danger.
That being said, i would've loved to see the funeral put into part-III.
He was forced to watch 'The Godfather part 3'
