I just got back from "The Godfather Coda"...

and I am not okay. Why did Coppola feel the need to be a mercilessly cruel bastard?

Hey Coppola, it's 2020. Maybe trying to make everyone feel as bad as possible at the end wasn't the best of decisions?

The movie's good and looks great on the big screen, but holy shit that re-edited ending is twisting the knife.

I can't honestly think of any way a re-edit could improve this turd, at least enough for me to pay to see it.

I'll see the re-edit at some point, but I don't have great expectations.

What were the differences?

The original ending was already pretty bleak. How did they make it darker?

reply

If I explained, unfortunately, it would spoil it. It is bleaker, though.

I thought spoiler tags worked on this forum but I guess they don't. Ah well.

I didn't see it but heard about the ending thru another review. Basically FFC removes the actual death scene of Michael alone with the puppy dogs and switches it to a scene of just him, older and alone, but still alive and a final screen with words stating that he was condemned to live out his life without redemption, alone, and haunted. To me that's a big SO WHAT? I could have inferred that with the original ending when he finally croaks.

reply

Yeah, that's what I gathered from the original ending too. It doesn't change much for me.

reply

The original ending was much better and more emotional. He died alone, a contrast to how his father died. I just finished watching Coda and I am very disappointed. I expected some brand new scenes too and a wow of an ending. What was the point in this? Waste on money. :-(

Maybe he wants to make a Godfather Part IV with present day Pacino, so he retconned everything.

reply

Oh if it turns out he only recut Part III so he could keep Michael alive so he could make Part IV I am going to be beyond pissed off.
