R?

Why the hell was this rated R? It's pretty much just the same as the first. Almost the same, in terms of violence i guess. I guess it was just that one scene with the guy in the bathroom vomiting his blood, and of course his skin being melted. His skin isn't really melting though, all you see is just him put his hand on the back of his neck, and then his skin is all liquidy on his hands. big deal, it just looks like some kind of lotion or something.

See you in the funny papers.

I actually thought the first film was more violent.

Huh? IMDB says that it's only PG-13. Did they change the rating? It makes sense because I've seen PG and PG-13 rated movies more violent than this.

reply

Well on the back of the box it says Rated-R. Maybe the changed the rating at some point, deeming it a mistake to make it R-rated originally.

reply

It appears it was given an R by the MPAA. I have no idea where IMDB has pulled the PG-13 from.

....upon my search I finally found the answer on the MPAA's poorly designed website. They don't create links but simply search for the gate at www.mpaa.org and scroll down and find it.

Title: Gate II (1991)
Rating: R
Rating Reason: Rated R for scenes of drug use.
Distributor: Vision P.D.G.
Other: Edited for re-rating
Previously rated (PG-13) in (1990).

Better yet the MPAA link leads right to here. Awesome.

So in 1990 they gave it a PG-13, but before it hit theaters they went up to R (within one year time).... Wonder who complained and got that raised?

reply

It said it was edited for re-rating. They probably put new drug scenes in it to push it up to the R.

It's strange they suddenly wanted it with an R rating. I have an old Fangoria with an article on Gate 2, with the makers saying it's gonna be a PG film geared towards 13 and 14 year olds.
