Fair Frankenheimer

This is a very well-directed film with excellent performances – particularly from Roy Scheider – but the script and plot are rather disappointing. I expect more from John Frankenheimer, and generally I get it, but this film is worthwhile as a snapshot of the thawing of the Cold War. 7/10 stars from me.

Unfortunately the story constantly borders on the ridiculous.

It's so slight and inconsequential, a bit of a non-entity of a story none too compellingly told. A rather simplistic allegory for the Cold War brinkmanship.
