*sigh* It sickens me when Jackie Chan films are dubbed. Fine if you buy a DVd but I'd rather watch the subtitled as the dubs usually get it wrong. And plus sometimes the dubbing is just so bad. I want this on TV undubbed...that way I can enjoy it without some pillock dubbing jackie via a mic.
If you're against dubbing, then you should be againt the original dubbing in the "original" Hong Kong version of the film. The non-Chinese actors in the film spoke their lines in their own languages (such as German, Italian, Spanish, and Japanese), and were dubbed over by cantonese actors so that it makes sense as to why everyone can understand each other. Them being dubbed in english makes sense, since it's the world's most spoken language. The only thing I have against the Buena Vista version of the film is that it cut the film shorter. I think they did a good quality on DVD, it's just that I want the longer cut! It's so much more better!
well yeah the film would be much more enjoyable for an English speaking audience if it was originally filmed in English. Dubbed films just never quite sound right, I don't know if it being in the original langague and subtitled would be better, I haven't see it.
The original dubbing (meaning: the first audio track ever created for the movie) of a Cantonese movie is whole different thing than a random dubbing; usually a lot more work was put in that than into most of the later dubs done by other countries for their market. There must be exceptions as always but very-very few.
Your rant is just an excuse to watch watered-down, poorly translated and acted versions of movies, not wanting to read, because that takes a little effort.
Most of Jackie Chan's movies which feature a large non-Chinese cast have the actors either speak their own language when doing the dialogue. A few of the Caucasian "Gwailos" do speak Cantonese though. Or they simply shoot the scenes without sound. Then they dub the actors in Cantonese for consistency purposes. Then the REDUB the films for the English audiences.
the ones who say that there version has jckie doing the voice then you are on about the American version. us UK'ers have the film dubbed in english by some other guy that isnt jackie.
Jackie Chan and Debra Messing in........will never happen.......
I'm nearly 40 years old and I'm a movie buff, which means I've watched thousands of movies and I must say this is the funniest movie ever; there's just nothing that comes close to this, except ofcourse "Mr Nice Guy" and "Who am I".
The cheesy dub makes it all the more perfect;)
I've watched all versions. There are actually two english versions; the first being the most cheesy and best;)
The second dub ruins it all.
I've watched this movie over 50 times since it came out; I think it's that good.
It's a question of quality. German dubbing has high standards and the german version of this movie is no exception.
Seriously, you can make the same mistakes in the subtitles - if the translator doesn't know his job well enough, the result will be bad, regardless if it is subs or dubs.
