the idea for Raiders of the Lost Ark was largely based on a Scrooge comic...

Scrooge McDuck was the original Indiana Jones, so it's only fitting. Lucas and Spielberg were fans of the Barks' Uncle Scrooge comics (they were kids when these comicbooks were published, in the '50s). Even the intro of Raiders is lifted from two adventures of McDuck:"The Seven Cities of Cibola" and "The Prize of Pizarro".

The picture they show on IMDB is actually better than the European DVD cover, oh well. And yes it's as obvious as the bill on Scrooge McDuck's face.

This was basically Indiana Jones for kids. In one of the very first episodes Launchpad says something along the lines of "wait do I hate snakes, no I don't that's that other guy", then after having an encounter with a snake he then goes "now I hate snakes"
