Dreamer of Oz.... picture quailty.

I am not one to wait until midnight to buy a movie. But for the Dreamer of Oz/Wizard of Oz release I waited and went to the local Wal-mart and snagged it for $ 13.00. This is a steal, considering I paid $50 for the four disc ed a year ago.

The Dreamer of Oz is a full length movie issued as a Special feature on the 2nd disc of the Wizard of Oz 70th anni. ed. DVD and Blu ray. I remember seeing this made for TV movie in the 1990's. The dreamer of Oz was first broadcast Dec. 1oth 1990 on ABC.

The dvd quality of the D.o.O is sub par at best and takes a little to get used too. I watched this DVD on my BR player. I didnt expect the Picture Quality to be the best as the print was most likely taken from a VHS taped from the TV. The images can be fuzzy and the close ups are not as clear as I would have hoped.

ALL in ALL this is a great addition to any fans movie library and a must have for any OZ fan indeed. This story will sweep you in from the very first sceen. DO NOT let the sub par quality keep you from enjoying this timeless neo classic. and Fall in love with the Wizard of OZ all over again.

John Ritter at his BEST!

I agree. I just picked this up at Walmart and the quality is abysmal. I've waited since the day this aired on TV almost 20 years ago to see it again so I guess this is better then nothing.

You think that someone at Warners would know what FOCUS means what a awful transfer this was.

I was shocked by how poor the quality was.I dearly love this movie, and waited patiently as the OP to purchase this on Blu Ray/ DVD. I pray one day we'll get a better copy. I still can't believe that Warner released the movie in such horrendous quality. Very unprofessional.

A friend just told me the same thing. He bought the Blu Ray set and said the quality is awful.

That is a shame considering there is at least 1 good copy out there. Robert Baum (L. Frank Baum's great-grandson) has a copy that he showed at an Oz festival last year and the quality was outstanding.

Actually it premiered on NBC.

I just saw it (It has been included in the Blu-ray edition) and it looks really bad.
'Gone with the Wind' included a similar movie TV in much better shape about the search for "Scarlett O'Hara". That one looks a lot better although it's quite dull. I found 'The Dreamer of Oz' much more enjoyable despite the poor picture quality.

I'm actually watching the blu ray of it now and was surprised how poor the visual quality is. I wonder why they couldn't improve the quality. It seems like this would be unacceptable for almost anything else.

It was most likely recorded on broadcast video tape. If you look at many TV shows from 1990, the picture quality seems to suffer compared to today's HD standards. I'm sure that if someone wanted to spend the money, this movie could be fixed up to look much better than it does, but, there has to be some demand to make that project worthwhile. Being available as an extra on a DVD isn't the necessary demand to go through all the computer manipulation to give this movie a better appearance.

They actually used a really bad copy of the print for this DVD release.

Robert Baum (L. Frank Baum's great-grandson) has a pristine copy of this movie that he shows at festivals (I saw it a few years ago and it was crystal clear). When I asked him about the poor quality on the DVD release, he said he was really disappointed; said he would've gladly loaned them his copy for the DVD release.

He joked that people who recorded it on VHS tape the night it aired probably have better copies than what was used for the DVD release.
