SPOILER: Why does Major Grant have to be in cahoots with Stuart?

Think about it for a minute, how awfully coincidental is it that an Army major and five assisting soldiers flown in to help John McClane and the Dulles staff, are somehow in cahoots with the bad guy? Having it revealed that Grant was actually one of the bad guys kind of strikes me as the movie making a twist just for the sake of making a twist. Maybe the filmmakers wanted to stack the odds even greater against John by having one of his presumed allies actually working for the terrorists the whole time.

But it wasn’t coincidental.

For whatever reason, it was clear that Grant was the go-to guy for handling this sort of thing.

Stuart knew Grant would be called in. They all counted on it.

reply

Grant and Stuart knew each from way back. Grant even tells McClane that he trained Stuart. The two men embrace when they meet after they rendezvous. All it took was someone in the Pentagon to facilitate the order that made Grant's unit deploy to the airport. Obviously that person would have been corrupt and or aware of the plan to spring Esperanza.

It was still silly because the plan would only work if there was a huge snowstorm, which would be impossible to predict when planning it all out. Not to mention, all the people at Dulles had to do was contact another airport and explain the situation and that airport would contact the planes overhead. Its just plot hole after plot hole here

no, plan works without snowstorms.

"all the people at Dulles had to do was contact another airport and explain the situation and that airport would contact the planes overhead."

no they says all airport in regions closed.

reply

Any airport in any region could have been notified. And the plan needed the snowstorm otherwise the pilots would have done emergency landing if it were clear skies

"Any airport in any region could have been notified"

no. terrorist jam comms between real tower and planes. planes think terrorist are tower. they listen to tower. think they are worth listen to. can only talk to tower.

tower eventually use morse codes to reach plane. so no plot whole.

"And the plan needed the snowstorm otherwise the pilots would have done emergency landing if it were clear skies"

no. plan was to land esperansa plane. they turn off runway light at night time, tell plane to "wait in holding pattern @ outer markers". plan only needs nighttime not snows.

Why couldn't Dulles airport, from an outside phone or have the FBI contact another airport and that airport could talk to the planes overhead to explain the situation?

The terrorists earlier crashed an airplane at Dulles. Why didn't any of the other planes see this from the sky? This movie is full of illogical plot holes

yes i thinks writer of this film realize that and tower use morse code 'beeps' to get through to plane. i think terrorist tell tower earlys in film if tower contact plane then they crash plane. thats why they no use fbi or contacts by radios, too risks with terrorist listen to tower comms.

Not sures, millsey. i no plane experts but thinks holding pattern for plane who wait to land can be very fars from airports, big distance.

is that all?
sounds like another pretty big obstacle in the increasingly ridiculous plan really!

reply

I always thought it was a great plot twist and the only one I can think of that was better was when we found out that Rey was a Palpatine
