This movie needed to be more upbeat

Despite it's bright colors, this is a dreary movie. The score is often melancholy. We have a sad love story of a woman who wants to settle down with her man but is pushed aside, then apparently cheated on.

A moment for some fun, upbeat music, the montage of Dick Tracey beating the crooks after the wire tap, unfortunately has the somber song "I always get my man".

The makers of this forgot that it should essentially be a popcorn, summer flick. That means more laughs, more stunts, and less sad stuff.

I mean we have a movie with a guy called mumbles, prune face, big head, etc. It needed to utilize this and stop taking itself so seriously.

If they had gone that direction, it would've turned into Batman Forever/Batmanand Robin which were both complete garbage. Dick Tracy is much more interesting cause it stayed away from being cheesy and better for 'taking itself seriously' as you say.

@Intothenightalone If anything they should've swapped the songs around. It should've been the upbeat "Back In Business" while Tracy was busting the gangs, and the dreary "I Always Get My Man" while Tracy's languishing in jail.

As the movie was, the titles of the songs match what's happening, but the tone of the songs are all wrong - it's like we're supposed to be happy that Big Boy's operation is booming.
