most annoying characters?

My first answer would be the daughter. What was her problem, anyway, that she didn't know better than to not back-talk to the criminals? Was she really that much of a brat??

LYnch's character annoyed me, too. I thought she was supposed to be this reallly sharp character, according to Crouse? But throughout most of the movie she's sniveling and whining. Ugh.

reply

By far, the daughter and the female FBI agent.

reply

I was annoyed by both kids and Anthony Hopkins.

reply

Yes the female FBI agent! Was that her real voice??? If so... ouch.

reply

Three way tie: daughter (her sheer presence alone made me regret being a teenager), Kelly Lynch (should've just made her as evil as he was and she could've been tolerable), and the FBI agent (her singsong voice was very irritating.
Honorable mention: Hopkins' character, for a dude that played Hannibal Lecter, should've been written to have a more sinister side that could match Bosworth. Instead he was kind of wimpy.

"I outrank you." Brad Chase
"And I'm such a slut for authority." Alan Shore

reply

Actually, the boy was a huge pussy. I mean he wasn't that young to act the way he did.

I'm not necessarily saying the casting was the best or that this movie is any good, but Hopkin's character is about the only thing in the movie that remotely works.

He wasn't wimpy at all, actually. He stood up to Rourke and the others every step of the way to try and protect his family.

reply

Plus it's stupid to say Anthony Hopkins character should've been sinister, since he has played Hannibal Lecter. Hopkins' character wasn't annoying, except in the beginning when he acted immature and irresponsible.

Lindsay Crouse and the kid were the most annoying.

I had a teenage daughter who would have found our gun at the first opportunity, taken out the bad guys, then tossed them in the garbage, so this teen girl didn't bother me. But L Crouse's character made me want to puke. What was with her voice???? I usually like her, but she really botched this one up. She sounded like she'd just had a testosterone shot in her Adam's apple, and acted like the Terminator with boobs. I was so glad when she got shot; I was just disappointed it didn't kill her.

You know the sound of wind rushing through treetops? That's my signature.

Lindsay Crouse as the FBI Agent-In-Charge was easily the most annoying. Everytime she spoke, it just made me wince.

Shawnee Smith was okay as the daughter.

Kelly Lynch as the lawyer was just a bubblehead. Not so much annoying as she was non-distinguishable; virtually any actress could have played that role.

I think Anthony Hopkins as the father came across as self-important and slightly annoying because that's the way it was written.

reply

the boy was annoying.

The daughter was very rebellious...against people with guns?? Not sure how real that is. But she was beautiful, so of course very tolerable.

thats about it i guess

reply

I"m sorry but the FBI agent (I guess it was lindsey crouse) was absolutely awful and annoying!!!!
Her voice!! Just everything bothered me about her, and like another poster said she made the movie
campy with her acting.

reply

So well said!

reply

Well. obviously Lindsay Crouse. My god, that was a ridiculous performance.

Also, Kelly Lynch. This stone-dumb, hysterical mess was supposed to be "smart". The way Crouse talked about her, she was some cold, calculating master-mind.

Hopkins should NOT have been in this movie. One of the greatest actors of our time, but he did not belong in this movie. Anthony Hopkins, harassed, suburban Dad...right.

reply

The correct answer is, "Pretty much all of them," but like several others I too would single out Lindsay Crouse and her unfortunate and unnecessary accent: "We ah givin that famahlee a chayunce!" Cringe. It's a shame; she is usually a reliable actress. Let's blame Cimino for bringing out the worst in a pretty interesting group of actors.

reply

I find it amusing that it's mostly the "good guys" in the movie that people are saying that are annoying, lol. Not that I'm disagreeing with what anyone's said on this message, I just thought it was funny that none of the bad guys (besides Kelly Lynch's character) haven't been said to be annoying.

reply

most annoying? That's like asking me which, of all the times I've gone to the toilet in my life, which dump did I most regret flushing away? There's no such thing as an unannoying character in this flick. The least annoying would be the one on screen the shortest. But if I utterly did have to choose just one worst:

the boy was a huge pussy. I mean he wasn't that young to act the way he did.

Yes, I quite agree. He made me embarrassed to have grown up as a boy in America. The thought that someday, when a UFO alien lands and watches our old movies to learn about earth culture, that he might wrongly imagine that that son had something in common with Zimbo. As if!

Zimbo, you nailed it! This remarkable film is like finger nails dragging on a chalkboard.

reply

I have to agree with the female FBI agent. What was with Crouse's voice?

reply

I'm going with Kelly Lynch. SHe was pointless to me. She's a sniveling, whinning pain in the ass. I couldn't stand her.

A lot of people say the daughter was annoying but I didn't find it to be true imo. I understand her telling the boy on the phone that she could be a bitch because she can. What's she suppose to do, chat with her boyfriend like nothings going on. I think she thought that if she was bitchy to him he'd leave her alone. Smart imo.

reply

Without question Lindsay Crouse's FBI agent, who is probably one of the most annoying characters in movie history.

I'm happiest...in the saddle.

reply

The female FBI agent killed the movie.

The daughter didn't bother me because she was supposed to be annoying and bitchy. And Kelly Lynch was kind of annoying but she was also meant to be a baset-case so the climax of the movie could happen.

The female agent was just over-the-top in a role that should have been played straight. And if you can't do a Southern accent, please don't.

reply

You picked 2 good ones, and probably the most annoying ones to boot. Although most of the performances are shockingly awful!
