I've been an admirer of this movie for a while and have two different versions, the "Not Rated" MPI tape and the British SGE PAL tape. The content of the two is identical, the runtime of the British tape appears shorter because of the 25fps PAL transfer (5% faster than the NTSC: roughly 84 minutes PAL as opposed to 88 minutes NTSC) but that's not what I mean. It's bugged me from the first time I saw the movie:
At about 18 minutes into the tape one of the guys at the club starts using this arm exercise machine and the thing tears him apart -- if you've seen the movie you know what part I mean. What caught my attention is that as the guy is like bursting at the seams there is a LOOP of footage right at the end of his killing. Just as the blood really starts to flow and his ribs start poking out, the film on BOTH versions I have suddenly slows down, reverses for about a second and a half, goes forward again, reverses one more time, and then the scene ends.
It looks to me like there is an edit there to possibly cover up some serious gore: In the next seen we hear one of the characters say that he was ripped apart, which could be a figurative statement or there could be an alteration to cover up his arms being popped out of their sockets. Which sort of looks like how things were shaping up (no pun intended). Other than that I agree that the film is probably uncut but that one part has just bugged me for a while: Is this unrated version actually cut?? Doesn't seem to make sense though the sight of some guy having his arms pop out of their sockets would be more nasty than anything else in the movie, just wondering if anyone else has noticed it.
