Cole's girlfriend diminshed this movie

Does anyone else think that the whole relationship thing with Cole and Clare really takes away from what could be a really good movie? I still like the movie but, I usually turn down the volume or change the channel while they're doing the love scenes or whatever.

It's pretty campy, but I think that falls in line with the rest of the movie.

I think they knew they were making a fairly campy movie to begin with; it's just entertainment. As an audience member, I think you have to acknowledge that. How can you criticize a film for being campy when it knows it's being campy?

It's like those teen slasher horror movies. They are very campy, but they are meant to be, and that is part of their appeal.

I think it's when a movie tries to be serious and dramatic, and it comes off campy, that you have problems.

Well you could be right but,it seemed to me like they were actually trying to capture the female audience with the whole romance thing. Which is stupid since your probably not going to get the female demographic interested anyway. So, why not just cut out the pathetic love interest crap and make it a guy movie?

Its kind of the same problem Nascar has with its ratings now. They tried to lure other types of fans to watch Nascar while forgetting their base demographic. Which was blue collar and southern folks.

Ya, they were probably trying to expand their audience with the romance. A lot of movies have a cliched romance. And this movie is all about campy cliches, being a "sequel" of sorts to 'Top Gun.'

I don't think NASCAR's problem has been trying to expand their fan base. To criticize NASCAR for trying to expand their sport is a ridiculous notion. The only people that make the argument that NASCAR is failing because they "forget their blue collar, southern fanbase" are the southern fanbase themselves who want to somehow keep the sport uniquely their's.

Jeff Gordon is one of the most critical drivers in NASCAR history. What he did in the 1990's opened up the sport to new markets, new people, and allowed the sport to achieve heights never dreamed of before.

I think NASCAR has made a few mistakes with the racing itself......Brian France Jr. has made some zealous moves; chief among them, the creation of 'The Chase.' I don't think the new car has really improved the racing at all; the set-ups seem to be as finicky as ever. I think the argument can even be made that there are too many races.

Nonetheless, I still enjoy the sport. To some extent, given the crazy increase in popularity of the sport, maybe a sag in popularity and ratings was inevitable.

This was a summer popcorn flick. Such films are almost required to have:
1. Action
2. Sophomoric Humor
3. A romance
4. A hero with "Daddy issues" or one who is struggled to fin themselves.
5. The hero ALWAYS wins.

This is a staple of big summer movies. Has been for decades. Where have you been?

I guess the meek can inherit the Earth now. It looks like the stupid aren't doing anything with it.

I didn't think the romance angle was that bad. However had there been as much emphasis on the acting as there was on the racing scenes it would have been an even better movie.
