Event Horizon

I am wondering if the director and/or writer of Event Horizon might have seen this film and been influenced by it. The possession of Dr. Weir especially feels similar to events in Dark Side of the Moon. Obviously Event Horizon took the ideas much further, but this film seems to have trailblazed the idea of demonic manifestations in space. Any other films out there using this concept?
