I hate the fact (spoilers)

That the kind guard was killed with the rest of them. The one who gave him the tissue to stop his bleeding and tried to stand up for Dunbar while the rest of them were beating him. You can tell he had sympathy. Why'd he have to die?

reply

The Indians didn't care. Because they didn't know, and they didn't stop to ask. They assumed that because they were all white, they were all evil and deserved no mercy. Their racism and inherent human savagery overwhelmed their sense of compassion. One of many unfortunate things that tend to occur when two different human cultures clash. I'm sure many a kind and goodhearted Indian was killed because of their racial or ethnic association with raiders and bandits, no matter how trivial.

reply

Maybe you should read or talk to an elder . Natives were kind to white men. White men started the war. We defended and if one of our own had been captured our people saw the captures as enemies .

reply

its a film... even though it did seem like it was trying to be a historical fiction....

I obviously felt the same... the man seemed compassionate and a good leader who tried to stop his unruly trooped from hurting Dunbar.

he didn't want him killed but he was chained

Well, occasionally. But maybe you and your "elders" should read some history books, instead of relying on myths.

reply

Indians fought and killed each other well before the pilgrims arrived. They weren't saints either.

reply

This depends on the tribe and the individual.

The white leaders did do their share (perhaps more) of bad stuff.

reply

He was at the wrong place and the wrong time. He was riding in front of the pack and got the first arrow. I'm sure Dunbar would have told them to spare him if they knew. You notice hes the only one who doesn't get scalped at the end.

reply

Dunbar prevented Wind in his Hair from scalping the kind officer.

reply

If you noticed, Dunbar stands briefly over the officer's body with a look of regret implying he was sad at the officer being killed.

reply

Yep...caught that last night as well. The Sioux charged swiftly, so there was no time for Dunbar to try to stop them...so he was the first to get killed. It's unfortunate...but to make up for it, Spivey went, too...LOL.

If you're not taking any steps forward, you're not moving at all.

This movie shows how life can be very unfair.

reply

Only civilization makes life fair. But some seem to think that civilization is synonymous with woke so they shun it.

reply

I think the point of that is that once hate takes over right and wrong and justice are lost sight of.
