Anybody think the ending is kind of messed up?

So Brian gets rescued, he arrives back home on the plane and sees his Dad. The dad is really relieved to see him alive and well, but then the mom shows up and he has a sort of sad look on his face as Brian goes to hug her. That's the last we see of him.

We later see Brian at the house getting ready for Thanksgiving/Christmas/Whatever dinner. His mom's new boyfriend shows up and Brian accepts him as a new part of the family, everybody lives happily ever after. Though, I think the dad is probably spending his evening alone, serves him right, he was the one who was cheating before the divorce...oh wait.
