Why were there no sequel movies made to this series?

I get that a lot of people did not like this movie but liked "Cast Away" more or less the same movie in it's own ways but, how come in this series, no other movies were made from the books? I quite enjoyed this and would have loved to see film adaptations of the remaining books.

I used to wonder the same thing about the movie for "The Indian In the Cupboard"- but now I understand they altered what happened at the end of the film so no sequels could follow.
