Explain Please?

My part of the story:
Okay, I stayed off school today, even though I'm missing out on something that may or may not be important since this is year 12 anyways, but whatever, anyway, when I finally wake up, I get up have a grilled cheese sandwich and sit down in from of the tv. And what's on? Some creepy movie with a girl I vaguely recognize but with that trademark eighties' hairstyle and the green goblin from Spiderman. Since I'm curious, I put down the remote and watch. Unfortunately I realize I missed something important because there's something crucial (and obviously awful) that Helen Nirren has done to the vaguely recognizable (Natasha) girl, but I sit back hoping that in the next part of the movie all will be revealed, instead I get more confused as Christopher Malken turns around, slashes Rupert Everett's throat and proceeds to make out with his wife over the body as Natasha looks on. What the heck happened?? "We're on the other side of the mirror" ?? Mascara moustache??
Could someone please give me an overview of the plot that's more descriptive than the official one?

Honestly, you did'nt miss much. There is very little that i can tell you beyond the brief description above. I think it has something to do with fascism and the jealousy & destruction of beauty. Some movies arre meant to keep you guessing....

fascism?
huh?

"fascism?

Its rather hinted at that Walken's character (Robert) was sympathetic to Mussolini's regime, and that his family played a role in it, although its far from clear Robert's political sympathies had much to do with his peculiar actions. I think the simple explanation is insanity.

Been making IMDB board posts since the 90s, yet can't bring up any from before December of 2004.

I would say latent homosexuality figures into it as well.

Yes, this is kind of a horror movie about repressed sexuality.

Insanity, definitely. But the fascist overtone is very clear, and not just because of Robert's allusions to his precious ancestors. The conversation about the mores of Great Britain (as Robert sees them) is very indicative of his leanings.

But yes, it is far from clear how it all figures in. That part annoyed me.
Harold Pinter's dramas and screenplays often annoy me for that reason. They often appear to contain half-baked ideas, never properly developed.

For some reason I find this post near perfect. My only suggestion to you would be to never ever watch the movie and leave it as the mystery that it is in your head. Nothing you see will make sense of it in the least, unless you want to over analyze it to the point of exhaustion. My suggestion is that you write a story that ends with what you saw, and link it here, so we can all have the thrill of the same ending with a completely different story!
